Start with one edge, measured

The fastest way to identify a label is to measure it, not to recognise it by sight. Take one label and measure a single edge in millimetres - the width or the length, whichever is easier to read. One number is enough. LabelCraft matches that number against the closer edge of every built-in size, because die-cut rolls vary in which edge feeds through the print head, so your measured number could be either dimension. It then shows you the full width by height of the match, so you confirm the other edge before you print.

The 2 mm rule

A built-in size counts as a match when one of its edges is within 2 mm of your measurement. Inside that tolerance the printed label lands on the die-cut stock cleanly; further out, the barcode and text drift toward the edge. And if your measurement is more than 2 mm from every size, LabelCraft does not silently pick the nearest one and hope - it names the closest size and suggests you re-measure or build a custom template at the exact dimensions. A wrong size is never chosen on your behalf.

If you do not have a ruler: pick by printer brand

The printer brand narrows it down to a shortlist. LabelCraft has built-in presets for four brands; choose the brand and it lists that brand's common sizes for you to compare against your stock:

Brand alone is a shortlist, not the final answer - two rolls from the same brand can be different sizes - so measure one edge to pin the exact preset whenever you can.

A worked example

Say you measure one edge of your label and read 57 mm. LabelCraft matches that to the Dymo 11354 Multipurpose (57 x 32 mm) - an exact hit, zero millimetres off - and shows the full 57 x 32 mm size so you can check the other edge really is 32 mm. If your roll were 57 mm on one edge but 25 mm on the other, you would see the gap immediately and pick a different size. That is exactly why LabelCraft confirms both edges instead of trusting a single number.

When nothing matches: size a custom template

If your stock is not one of the built-in sizes, you are not stuck. Create a custom template at your label's exact width and height, and LabelCraft prints to it to within 0.1 mm - the same dimension guarantee every preset carries. The recommender points you here whenever your measurement is more than 2 mm from the closest preset, so an unusual size becomes a deliberate custom template, never a silently-wrong print.

How LabelCraft picks a size for you

  1. Open printer setup in LabelCraft and enter your printer brand, or enter one edge of a label you measured with a ruler.
  2. LabelCraft matches your measurement to the closest preset within 2 mm and shows the full width by height to confirm.
  3. Accept the suggested preset, open the full size chart to compare every dimension, or size a custom template if nothing fits.
