You set up a label for a 25 × 25 mm sticker, hit print, and what comes out is half the size — or floating in the corner of an A4 page. The barcode no longer scans and the text is unreadable. This is one of the most common label-printing problems, and the good news is that it is almost never the label file: it is a single setting in your print dialog. This guide shows exactly where that setting is in Acrobat, Chrome and Preview, how to match your paper size, and why LabelCraft labels print at the right size once you do.

Why this happens: the print dialog is scaling the page

A label PDF is created at the exact physical size of your stock — a 25 mm label is a 25 mm page. The trouble starts when the print dialog, the browser, or the printer driver decides to resize that page to fit a different sheet. The usual culprits, any one of which shrinks (or stretches) every label:

“Fit to page” / “Fit to printable area” — the dialog scales the small label page up or down to fill the paper it thinks you are using.
“Shrink oversized pages” — Acrobat quietly reduces anything it considers too big for the paper, so a sheet of labels comes out a few percent small.
Scale set below (or above) 100% — a leftover custom scale value rescales the whole job.
Paper size mismatch — the driver is set to A4 or Letter while you are printing on a small label roll (or the reverse), so it rescales to make the content “fit.”

The fix: print at actual size (100%)

In every print dialog the answer is the same — turn off any fit/shrink option and set the scale to exactly 100% (often labelled “Actual size”). Here is where that control lives in the three most common viewers.

Adobe Acrobat / Reader

Open the PDF and choose File → Print.
Under Page Sizing & Handling, select Actual size (not “Fit” or “Custom Scale”).
Click Properties (or “Page Setup”) and make sure Shrink oversized pages is unchecked and the paper size matches your label stock.
Check the preview thumbnail: the label should fill the page, not sit tiny in one corner. Print.

Chrome, Edge and the built-in PDF viewer

Open the PDF and press Ctrl+P (or ⌘P).
Click More settings to expand the full options.
Set Scale to 100% (a Custom value of 100, not “Fit to printable area” / “Default”).
Set Paper size to your label stock, and Margins to None, then print.

Preview on macOS

Open the PDF and choose File → Print.
Set Scale to 100% and make sure Scale to Fit is turned off.
Pick the Paper Size that matches your stock (use “Manage Custom Sizes…” for a non-standard roll), then print.

Match the paper size to your label stock

Even at 100% scale, the printer will rescale if its paper size is wrong — a small label sent to an A4 page gets re-centred and the driver may still “fit” it. Always set the paper size to match what is physically loaded:

Thermal roll printers (Dymo, Zebra, Brother, Rollo) — choose the exact label size in the driver, for example 25 × 25 mm or 4 × 6 in. One label is one page.
Label sheets (Avery and similar) — choose A4 or US Letter to match the sheet, and print the whole sheet at 100% so the grid lines up with the die-cut labels.
Create a custom size if your stock is not listed — most drivers let you add the exact width × height of your label or roll.

How to tell it printed at the right size

Measure the printed label with a ruler against the size you set — a 25 mm label should measure 25 mm, not 22.
Scan the barcode. A correctly-sized code scans on the first pass; a shrunk one usually will not.
On a label sheet, the printed labels should line up exactly with the die-cut edges, with no creeping drift down the page.
