Long product titles - the kind RC and diecast, cosmetics, wine, and auto-parts shops live with every day - often do not fit their box on a small label at the font size you set. What happens next decides whether the label prints the full name or silently loses half of it. LabelCraft never drops text in silence: it fits the title the way you tell it to, and warns you before the PDF is generated if the name genuinely cannot fit.

The three overflow modes

Every text element in a LabelCraft template has an overflow mode that decides what happens when its text is too long for its box. There are exactly three, and the template editor offers exactly these - there is no hidden fourth option: shrink automatically reduces the font, wrapping onto more lines as needed, until the whole title fits, down to a readable floor; wrap keeps your chosen font size and flows the title onto extra lines; truncate keeps your font on one line and cuts the overflow with an ellipsis.

Which mode for a long name

For long product names the choice is between letting LabelCraft shrink the font and giving the title more room. shrink fits the most into a fixed box, because it both wraps and reduces the font - but only as far as the 6 pt thermal-readability floor, never into an unscannable blur. wrap keeps your font at full size and gives the cleanest result when you give the title a taller band for the extra lines to sit in. A reliable recipe for a long-name catalogue: make the title element taller and set it to wrap, or leave it on shrink and let the font auto-reduce. Either way the name prints in full when it fits.

LabelCraft warns before you print

If a title still cannot fit - even after wrapping and shrinking to the 6 pt floor - LabelCraft does not quietly clip it. The render raises a never-silent overflow warning that names the product, and a pre-flight check runs the same measurement before the PDF is generated and before any label quota is spent, so you see the problem on screen while you can still fix it, never as a surprise on a printed roll. That is the opposite of the usual behaviour, where a label tool renders an oversized design, clips whatever does not fit, and hands you a plausible-looking PDF.

Set the title element to wrap and make its box taller so a two- or three-line name has room to print in full at a readable size.
Leave it on shrink when the box height is fixed: the font auto-reduces to the 6 pt floor, and you are warned if even that is not enough.
Shorten the name or use a bigger label when the content genuinely needs more room than the stock allows - a larger format buys readable text without dropping below the floor.
