Moving to Shopify from Square, Lightspeed or QuickBooks POS: labels from a received purchase order
LabelCraft - barcode labels for Shopify that print at exactly the size you set.
Every label prints at the size you set - measured, not approximate.
Overflow or a missing barcode always raises a visible warning before you print.
Every bar lands on whole printer dots, so codes stay crisp and scan first time.
We never overwrite or reassign a product's existing barcode.
If your shop ran on Square for Retail Plus, Lightspeed Retail or QuickBooks Point of Sale, you probably printed barcode labels from a purchase order when a delivery came in. On Shopify that step is missing, and most shops notice it on their first delivery day. This guide says what your old system did, what Shopify does and does not do, and how to get the step back with LabelCraft.
What your old system did
From each vendor's own help pages, read on September 24, 2026:
- Square for Retail Plus (and Premium): open a received or partially received purchase order in the Square POS app and tap Print labels.
- Lightspeed Retail X-Series: print labels for every product on a purchase order from
Inventory → Stock control → Orders, at the ordered quantity. - Lightspeed Retail R-Series: on a purchase order, Print → Received Labels prints at the received quantity, and a received transfer prints at the received quantity too.
- QuickBooks Point of Sale: item tags print from purchase and receiving documents, a receiving voucher included. Intuit discontinued QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale on October 3, 2023, and partnered with Shopify.
What Shopify does, and what it does not
Shopify has purchase orders in the admin. You receive one on its linked inventory transfer, not on the purchase order itself: Products → Transfers, open the transfer, then Receive items. You accept or reject each line, and accepted stock becomes available at the location.
What you do not get is a label. The help page for Shopify's own Retail Barcode Labels app says “printing labels is currently not supported by Shopify POS”, and that the app has no bulk printing or CSV upload for choosing variants and quantities. So the delivery is counted, and then each label is a manual job: find each product, type each quantity.
Get the step back with LabelCraft
The Receive & label page in LabelCraft reads the shipments you received in Shopify, the transfer linked to a purchase order included. Each line comes in with its product, SKU, barcode and price, and the number of labels starts at the quantity you accepted, not the quantity you ordered. A short delivery prints short.
- Receive the delivery in Shopify as usual, on the transfer.
- In LabelCraft, open Receive & label and pick the shipment you just received.
- Check the copies. Each line starts at the accepted quantity; change one, or skip a line you do not want to label.
- If an item has no barcode, Generate missing barcodes gives it one and writes it to Shopify before you print.
- Pick your label template and print at 100% scale on your Dymo, Zebra, Brother or Avery stock. Labels come out exact to +/-0.1 mm.
No Shopify transfer for this delivery? Print from a list takes the supplier's packing list or CSV instead, matches each row to a product by SKU or barcode, and shows anything it cannot match before a single label prints.
Receive & label is part of the Retail Pro plan, $24.99 a month. The free plan prints up to 200 labels a month from the print page and Print from a list, enough to set up your labels before the next delivery.
What LabelCraft does not do
- It does not print from inside the Shopify POS app. You print from LabelCraft, in your Shopify admin.
- It does not read your old system. Purchase orders you made in Square, Lightspeed or QuickBooks stay there. LabelCraft works from what you receive in Shopify.
