Munbyn and Phomemo are the two budget thermal label printers most small Shopify sellers start with — inexpensive, direct-thermal, and sold everywhere on Amazon. They print barcode and product labels perfectly well; the catch is that their cheapest models are small and low-resolution, so getting a barcode to scan comes down to picking the right label size and printing at the right scale. This guide covers both, so your labels come out the exact size you set and your barcodes scan first time.

Supported Munbyn and Phomemo printers

The desktop models from both brands install a standard printer driver on Windows or macOS over USB, so you print a normal PDF — there is nothing brand-specific to configure inside LabelCraft. The small Bluetooth pocket models (like the Phomemo M110) are usually driven by the maker's phone app instead; you can still print a LabelCraft PDF, but choose the app's actual-size / 100% option rather than a fit-to-label setting. Common models:

Phomemo M110 / M120 — the pocket Bluetooth label makers (print width about 48 mm), usually driven by the Phomemo phone app rather than a desktop driver. Good for small product, price, and address labels (commonly 40 × 30 mm or 50 × 30 mm).
Phomemo M220 / PM-241 — wider 3-inch and 4-inch desktop models that take labels up to roughly 80 mm and 104 mm. Good for shelf and carton labels with a larger barcode.
Munbyn ITPP941 / ITPP129 — 4-inch USB desktop thermal printers (up to about 104 mm wide). The workhorse choice for 4 × 6 shipping plus full-size product labels.

All of these are direct thermal — no ink or toner. They accept thermal label rolls up to the printer's maximum width, and a gap or black-mark sensor finds the start of each label automatically.

Because both brands print a standard PDF through the OS print dialog, the one setting that matters is the print scale — covered below. Everything else is the same as printing to any other label printer.

Common Munbyn & Phomemo label sizes (in millimeters)

These printers are sold with metric label rolls already, but listings often mix inches and millimeters. Here are the most common sizes, so you can pick the matching LabelCraft template or create a custom one:

40 × 30 mm — the most common small product label for the Phomemo M110/M120 and Munbyn portables. Room for a Code 128 or short EAN-13 plus a price.
50 × 30 mm — a slightly wider product/price label. A safer choice than 40 × 30 mm for a full 13-digit EAN-13.
40 × 60 mm — a tall label for a barcode plus a longer product name and SKU.
57 × 32 mm (2.25 × 1.25 in) — the classic retail barcode/price label on the wider desktop models.
76 × 51 mm (3 × 2 in) — a larger product label with room for barcode, name, price, and SKU (Phomemo M220 / Munbyn 3-inch).

The critical print setting: 100% scale

The most common cause of wrong-size labels and non-scanning barcodes on a Munbyn or Phomemo is the print dialog scaling the PDF. When printing, set the scale to 100% — look for “Actual size” or “None” in the scale dropdown. Never use “Fit to page”, “Shrink to fit”, or “Auto”, and make sure the selected paper size matches your label, not Letter or A4.

Small labels scan readiness: the budget-printer gotcha

The cheapest Munbyn and Phomemo models print at 203 dpi, and the popular 40 × 30 mm label is genuinely tight for a full EAN-13. At that size a retail barcode can fall below the width a scanner needs. LabelCraft checks this for you: when you pick a template, it tells you whether your selected items' barcodes will stay scannable at that size, and it flags a too-narrow barcode before the roll runs — so you find out at template-pick time, not after a wasted roll. If an EAN-13 won't fit, switch to a wider label, or use a denser Code 128 for in-store scanning.

Step-by-step: printing Munbyn or Phomemo labels from Shopify with LabelCraft

Open LabelCraft from your Shopify admin (Apps → LabelCraft).
In Step 1 — Select Products, search for the products you want to label and add them.
In Step 2 — Set Quantities, enter quantities per variant, or use “From inventory” for live stock counts.

For any size that isn't a built-in preset, go to Templates → New template in LabelCraft and enter the exact width and height in millimeters. The PDF page is exactly the size you set; the printer's gap sensor finds each label's start, so there is no need to leave the printer guessing.

The calibration offset fields (X/Y shift in mm) correct any systematic drift between the template and where the print lands on your stock. Troubleshooting

Barcode doesn't scan

Almost always a scale or size issue — print at 100%, never “fit to page,” and use a label wide enough for your symbology. If the barcode is missing from the product record, use LabelCraft's “Generate missing barcodes” to create a valid EAN-13 or Code 128 before printing. On small 40 × 30 mm labels, heed the scan-readiness warning: a barcode squeezed below the scannable width is flagged before the roll runs.

Labels print at the wrong size or two per label

The selected paper size must match your label stock, and the scale must be 100%. If the printer prints across the gap or shifts every other label, run the printer's label calibration (usually a long-press on the feed button) so the gap sensor re-learns your stock, then reprint.

Text is cut off at the edge

LabelCraft shows an overflow warning before the PDF downloads. Set the affected element's overflow mode to shrink to auto-scale the font, or truncate to shorten it with an ellipsis — nothing is ever silently cut. On small labels, shorter text (SKU instead of full title) leaves more room for a scannable barcode.

The printer feeds blank labels or skips

This is a printer sensor/calibration issue, not a PDF one. Re-run the printer's calibration so it learns the gap between labels, confirm the roll is seated straight, and check that your template height matches the physical label — a mismatch makes the sensor stop in the wrong place.
