Can you generate barcodes for free?

Yes. LabelCraft fills in missing barcodes in one click and gives you one of two kinds, depending on whether your store owns a GS1 company prefix. If you have entered a GS1 prefix, it mints a real, check-digit-valid GTIN-13 (your prefix + a unique sequence + the computed check digit) that is accepted by retailers and marketplaces. If you have not, it mints a free internal Code 128 value instead - no GS1 account, no purchase, no monthly fee.

Internal barcodes: free, no GS1 account needed

An internal code looks like LC00000001 (the letters LC plus a sequence that is unique within your store). It is a valid Code 128 barcode that scans perfectly on your own scanner, POS and packing station, so it is ideal for in-store lookups, warehouse picking and products you only sell yourself. The one thing it is not is a globally-unique retail GTIN: another shop could use the same number for a different product, so it is for internal use only - never list a product on a marketplace using an internal code. When you need a real GTIN (and where to get one)

If you sell on Amazon, eBay, Google Shopping or to retailers, they require a genuine, globally-unique GTIN issued by GS1 - a free generator cannot conjure one, because uniqueness is exactly what you are paying GS1 for.
